March on The Somme - Spring Forward, Special Stories…and So Much to Share.
Where has March gone? We have had such a busy, interesting month here. Our busiest March since before Covid. We’ve hardly drawn breath and here we are at the beginning of a new month.
March has been a mixed bag weather wise. Plenty of chilly days, quite a bit of rain (much needed) and windy, mainly grey skies, but the odd beautiful blue-sky day to remind us Spring is just about upon us. The cover photo taken by David shows the first snowdrops in Bernafay Wood.
Our friendly farmers have been toiling – ploughing, scarifying and finally seeding, judging it just right before the rain comes. The rolling landscape is turning from its winter brown to fuzzy green as the new growth pokes through and nature’s promise of new life continues its cycle. Our guests who love to walk the unseeded fields this time of year have so enjoyed the landscape, peace and the thrill of finding traces of history beneath their feet.
And with Easter approaching and its promises of renewal and rebirth, it made us think of this poem. It made us imagine how those left at home, bereaved, thought of the little things, the memories treasured and the lives forever changed.
